Founded in 1925, Emily Carr University of Art + Design is one of the oldest post-secondary institutions in British Columbia and the only one that is dedicated solely to professional education and learning in the arts, media and design. One of the University's roles is to act as an advocate for the arts and reinforce the need for public support. At every opportunity, the University promotes public understanding and appreciation of fine arts, media arts, and design for their significant impact on the well-being of our society.
Emily Carr's alumni and faculty are among the most influential and important artists and designers working in their respective fields. Graduates go on to careers in a variety of fields, and are regularly accepted into graduate studies programs in major universities and art institutions around the world. Our graduate students pursue careers in many fields.
Emily Carr has four faculties and two areas that deliver academic programs, including eleven undergraduate degrees, two graduate degrees, a jointly offered Master of Digital Media, and year-round certificates, programs and classes for lifelong creative study delivered from various locations.

The Career Development + Work Integrated Learning Office connects students and alumni with local, national and international employers in the creative industries and beyond. We offer career advising, clinics and strategy sessions, drop-in and individual advising, access to co-op learning opportunities, internships and partnerships, as well as the Artswork career portal.
Not available through the University, however, the University's proximity to the ocean and mountains allows for a wide variety of recreational activities, including sea kayaking, sailing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, etc.
Various events are organized by the Student Association Office.

Many cultural amenities are located near to the University, including theatre, dance, and visual art galleries.

Annual National Portfolio Day event that allows prospective students to meet with faculty to discuss their art portfolios and research the program. Usually held on the first weekend of December, please contact the University for more information.
